The Handpan is an absolutely beginner-friendly instrument where percussion and melody come together. Playing the handpan creates soothing, spherical and long-lasting soundscapes that completely captivate both the player and the listener. Neither previous experience nor knowledge of music theory is necessary, because with the Handpan all tone fields lie on a fixed scale. It is not possible to strike "wrong" sounding notes on most models. Therefore, when playing, you can completely follow your own intuition and lose yourself in mysterious, dreamy melodies after a very short time.
Sela Harmony Phoenix Steel Handpans are handmade and consist of a special, very stable stainless steel. Their sustain is between handpans made of nitrided steel (Melody and Harmony series) and models made of stainless steel (Harmony Stainless Steel and Majesty). This particularly well-balanced sustain and warm, controlled sound make Phoenix Steel handpans true all-rounders that can be played slowly and meditatively as well as quickly and percussively. They thus offer the best of both worlds and are also comparatively easy to care for, as the steel alloy is well protected against external influences such as hand sweat and dirt. During manufacturing, our Phoenix Steel models are given a beautiful bronze-colored finish.
Unlike other Sela handpans, the new Harmony Phoenix Steel Handpans have ten tone fields instead of the usual nine. This offers even more possibilities for playing a wide variety of melodies. The tuning D Amara (fundamental frequency 440 Hz) is one of the most popular scales. The central note in the middle of the handpan is D3, around it are arranged in a circle the notes A3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, C5 and D5. Practical: An overview of the scale with the individual tone fields is lasered onto the underside of the Handpan. |
